In León, seven key intersections have been intervened as part of a project aimed at improving road safety and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. The main objective of these actions is to find a balance between pedestrian safety and vehicular mobility in the city.
This project is part of a broader strategy that includes 9 major works in different areas, such as mobility and road infrastructure, with an investment of 711 million pesos. The works, led by the General Directorate of Mobility, range from adjustments to sidewalks, medians, and traffic lights, following the so-called mobility pyramid that prioritizes the most vulnerable users.
These improvements benefit residents of more than 50 neighborhoods near the intervened crossings, as well as users of public and vehicular transport. Among the intervened avenues are boulevard La Luz and Karol Wojtyla, avenue Omega and Cerro del Gigante, and boulevard Mariano Escobedo at several points. The adjustments include the installation of buoys to channel vehicular traffic and improvements in pedestrian infrastructure.
One of the most notable innovations is the reprogramming of traffic lights to offer more time for pedestrian crossing. Horizontal and vertical signage has been placed, such as stop lines, pedestrian and cyclist crossings, and direction arrows to improve orientation and safety for all road users.
Among the completed projects is the modernization of Chapalita Park, benefiting more than 69 thousand residents, and the construction of the bridge at Barranca de Venaderos, connecting more than 100 thousand people. The expansion of boulevard La Luz, with an investment of 100 million pesos, is highlighted for reducing travel times by up to 30% and providing infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.
Additionally, the timely delivery of the Parque de la Vida and the Parque Metropolitano Norte is expected, projects that promise renewed public spaces for citizens. Vehicle detection sensors have been installed to optimize traffic flows, efficiently adjusting the timing and thus improving mobility in the city.
